Interested in Child Care Study Programs?
There are many online childcare programs available as both online-only and hybrid programs. The diploma programs generally have one semester that prepares students for entry-level positions as childcare services providers. The undergraduate childcare programs focus on early childhood education and psychology while Masters programs emphasize classroom management, research methods, and learning environments during early childhood.
Different programs cover various aspects of early childhood development, multicultural education, child psychology and classroom safety. However, they do not make students eligible for the CDA (Childhood Development Associate) credential because it requires on-site experience of child care and advanced education.
Those who earn graduate or master's degrees in childcare can pursue careers in childcare related fields such as schools, non-profit organizations, social service agencies, and others.
Career Options and Income Potential
The career choices and income potential depend primarily on your degree level. Diploma holders in childcare can pursue entry-level jobs as assistants to the primary childcare providers in hospitals, daycare centers or schools. To earn the Child Development Association (CDA) credential, students have to progress their education, as it requires at least 120 credit hours of formal learning. Some popular career choices in the childcare field include the following:
- Child care workers - average salary of $30,370/year in 2023 1
- Preschool and child care center director - average salary of $54,290/year in 2023 2
